Free Fries 11.9.2025
We’re giving out free fries again on Thursday, September 11th, from 5 to 8 PM! But why on earth?
Well, it all started with a mistake.
Jakobstad, summer 2014. French fries had nearly driven our first restaurant to bankruptcy. The founders were, to put it mildly, fed up.
You see, when we first started, we thought making good fries would be easy. Take a potato, cut it into sticks of the right size, boil them in water, and fry them twice in oil. Turns out, it wasn’t that easy. Not even close.
The fries were too dark. They weren’t crispy. They were terrible. The result: unhappy customers, sleepless nights, and countless hours spent wrestling with potatoes. That summer was spent chopping, boiling, salting, and tasting potatoes.
Eventually, we discovered the potato variety we had chosen was the wrong one. As so often is the case, it all came down to the ingredients.
When the new potato harvest was ready – and we had perfected our cooking method – we could finally breathe a sigh of relief. At last, the fries were just as crispy on the outside and soft on the inside as we had always wanted.
But were we already too late?
In a small town, you lose your reputation quickly. Make a mistake, and soon everyone knows about it. Word of our terrible fries had already spread to far too many ears. So, we invited everyone to come and try our new, better fries for free. Yes, free.
At first, nobody really believed it. But when we stubbornly insisted that for one day we wouldn’t take a single cent for fries, people decided to come. And they came. Let’s just say there were more than a few high fives and fist bumps in the kitchen when we saw that people actually liked our new fries.
In the heat of victory, someone suggested we make it an annual tradition. And in the heat of victory, the rest agreed.
And here we are, 11 years later. A new Finnish potato harvest is here once again. And once again, free fries will be served on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5 to 8 PM in all our restaurants, except our locations at Messukeskus and Nokia Arena. Find your nearest restaurant here. Welcome!
